Here at Earth and Skin Gold Coast, we are super excited to be adding LED (light emitting diode) light therapy to our treatment menu. We have some of the best beauty therapists on the Gold Coast who not only provide luxury relaxation body and face treatments but are skilled therapists in treating skin health and conditions such as acne, psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, fine lines and ageing.
Our therapists are educated in a multitude of skin treatments and are passionate acne specialists. We will be introducing LED Light Therapy as an add on to maximise treatment benefits or as a stand-alone skin treatment. Find out more about the best LED Light Therapy on the Gold Coast.
What is LED Light Therapy?
Light-emitting diode (LED) therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free, rejuvenating treatment for the skin with no post-treatment downtime. Various wavelengths of light are used including blue, red and near-infrared to enter the cell and stimulate a natural response for cell regeneration and for the skin to repair. It is clinically safe for all skin colours and is not ultraviolet (UV) light making it safe for multiple exposures without causing any damage to the skin.
So, how does LED Light Therapy actually work?
Cells are able to absorb light and change is then caused by the stimulus. The wavelength or nanometre of the light determines where the light will go and the depth of penetration into the skin. The wavelength that is sent from the machine must match the target chromophore (what absorbs the light), if it doesn’t there will be no light absorption or reaction which equals no result. The chromophore changes shape when it absorbs the light resulting in a cascade of events and an electrical change in the cell occurs stimulating regeneration.
The power of the LED output or photon intensity needs to be substantial enough for energy to meet the cell if it isn’t enough output there is no result. The wavelength and power output are important in gaining the best results.
When to use LED Light Therapy?
Light therapy can be used in conjunction with Earth and Skin facial treatments including skin needling to enhance the results of the treatments or is available as a sole treatment to address various skin conditions and inflammation. Regular use of light therapy allows different skin depths and areas to be targeted gaining improved results over time.
Blue LED Light 415nm
The blue light is ideal for treating acne by affecting components of P. acnes bacteria by releasing singlet oxygen which has an antibacterial effect whilst also reducing sebum production reducing the occurrence of breakouts. This wavelength has also been shown to be beneficial for eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
With a lot of talk about the negative effects of blue light, this may raise some concern or question for some people. There is no concern of blue light exposure using light therapy as eyewear is provided to remove negative effects and disruption to the circadian (sleep/wake) cycle.
Red LED Light 633nm
The red light is absorbed by fibroblasts boosting hydration and collagen and elastin synthesis. It is best for minimising pore size, cell renewal and repair by stimulating cellular energy (ATP) and encouraging cells to regenerate faster. The light increases blood flow and lymphatic movement improving toxin removal. The result is naturally hydrated, plump and radiant skin.
Near-Infrared LED Light 830nm
Near-infrared is the most penetrating wavelength that is absorbed by the subcutaneous layer of the skin. Ideal for age spots, pigmentation, scar reduction, redness, rosacea and wound healing.
At Earth and Skin, we have the ability to design a light therapy treatment especially for you with the option of including one, two or three wavelengths at the time of your treatment.
What can I expect during an LED Light Therapy treatment?
You will be welcomed in the spa by the beautiful team and will be asked to complete a questionnaire and a skin assessment will be conducted by your therapist to assess which light treatment is best for you.
The treatment will start with a facial cleanse using an organic chemical-free cleanser before you sit back, relax and take twenty minutes to breathe, unwind and allow your skin to regenerate whilst you listen to your favourite podcast, meditation or music. The treatments are short enough to fit into your lunch break from work.
The feeling of the light can initially be a sense of warmth on the skin and bright light awareness. The warmth may feel it is being directed from the LED lights themselves, however, this heat is from within the cell as energy is released. On completion of the treatment, we will provide our own Earth and Skin SPF to protect your skin post-treatment.
We can’t wait to see you in the spa soon to experience the benefits of light therapy, we are hooked and we know you will be too!
