If you have a spray tan appointment coming up, you’ll want to know how to prepare your skin for a spray tan to make sure you get the best results possible.
Spray Tan Skin Prep
Step 1: Exfoliate at least 24 – 48 hours before your tan
Doing this will make sure you have a dead skin cell layer which the tan can adhere to.
The best way to exfoliate is with the Eco Tan Extreme Exfoliant Glove and the Eco Tan Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub. Both of these will exfoliate the skin and leave it nicely moisturised. Do not exfoliate the day of your spray tan!
Step 2: Hair removal
If you’re planning to do any hair removal, whether that’s shaving, sugaring, or waxing, make sure you do it at least 24 hours before your spray tanning appointment.
Step 3: Leave skin bare on the day of the appointment
Although you should be moisturising skin on days leading up to your spray tan appointment, on the day of your spray tan you’ll want to forgo any moisturisers and lotions. This will ensure your tan is streak-free.
Step 4: Wear comfortable, loose clothing to your appointment!
Arrive to your appointment in loose, dark, and comfortable clothing. This will prevent any clothing rubbing off your fresh tan.

Post Spray Tan Care
How can I maintain my spray tan?
Avoid sweating or accidentally wetting your skin. Stay cool and dress in loose fitting clothing to avoid marks in your tan. After at least 2 hours, you can rinse off in luke warm water. Avoid soaps, shampoos, or any other cleansing agents for at least 12 hours post tan appointment to ensure the tan has enough time to develop.
What can shorten the life of my spray tan?
- Body oils
- Sunscreen
- Chlorinated pools
- Not prepping your skin properly
- Sweating or exercising straight after your tan
- Not hydrating your skin (we recommend Eco Tan’s Winter Skin, available in our beauty shop)
- Avoid exfoliation and continue to dry body softly after the shower
