Winter here on the Gold Coast is pretty mild. We don’t really see much of a change between seasons but our skin can still suffer as the weather cools down.
Here are 8 steps you can take to care for your skin during the cooler months. Particularly important if you’re planning a winter holiday.
Keep your skins natural oil balanced
Hot baths or showers feel amazing in winter however hot water strips the skin of the oils that are essential in keeping skin hydrated. This can not only lead to dry skin but can also put the oil producing glands into overdrive. As our oil glands compensate for the oil they are missing the skin can become imbalanced and lead to breakouts. Stick to warm showers only for skin that is hydrated and balanced.
A beautifully nourishing shower gel that the whole family can use is the Eco Tan Peppermint and Coconut Body Wash.
Moisturise Immediately Afterwards
After your warm shower, is the best time to apply your favourite moisturiser. If you moisturise while your skin is still damp it will help to lock in moisture. Keep your favourite moisturiser next to the bath or shower and lather it on every time you wash.
My favourite all over body moisturiser is Jacqueline Evans – Grapefruit and Bergamot Body Cream.
Choose your Moisturiser Carefully
The moisturiser that you have selected in the warmer months just won’t cut it as the temperature drops. Your skin needs that little extra boost of moisture. Choose an oil based moisturiser will protect your skin from further dehydration in winter.
I use the Omega 3.6.9 by Evohe on my face mixed with their mineral powder to create a beautifully nourishing tinted moisturiser. It also has a natural SPF 26 for added sun protection.
Protect.
While the winter temperatures might not be that cool on the Gold Coast the UV factor is still high. Make sure your sun protection routine doesn’t stop in winter and don’t be fooled by overcast days. You can still get burnt and cause permanent sun damage not to mention the risk of melanoma. Use sunscreen daily on your face, hands and décolletage and don’t forget to wear a hat and cover up whenever possible.
Our favourite sunscreen is Earth and Skin Day Protect.
Hydrate with Mist
Hydrating mists are a must in winter. Keep them in your handbag and spritz throughout the day whenever you feel you need to. They help to deliver moisture to the skin as well as helping set makeup and some can even double as a toner. Three amazing uses in one bottle! I always travel with one in my handbag as your skin can really suffer from air conditioning or aircraft conditions.
I love the Rosewater Toner by Vanessa Megan. Both are beautifully hydrating and smell amazing.
Nourish your Hands and Feet
This one is super easy and works while you sleep. It’s a little trick I have been doing for years. To deliver amazing hydration, put your favourite heavy duty moisturiser on hands and feet and letting it soak in overnight by wearing cotton gloves and socks to bed. My hands and feet always feel amazing the next morning. Particularly if I have exfoliated right before moisturising. See my next point…
I love using the Eco Tan Coconut Body milk for this one as it doesn’t have an overpowering scent.
Get rid of those dead skin cells
Winter means a little more effort in exfoliating. Moisturiser just cannot penetrate the deeper layers of the skin if there is a barrier of dead skin cells blocking the way. Exfoliate gently once or twice a week and apply moisturiser straight away. We also recommend dry body brushing.
Get yourself regular facials.
If you’re not already getting regular facials, then winter is the time to start. Regular facials will deliver vital hydration, particularly if you select a facial using a hydrating mask or serum. The facial massage will also help to stimulate blood flow and collagen production.
Our Elemental Facial assists the skin to absorb product into the deeper layers of the dermis, providing more effective results and moisture delivery. Book in your facial now!
